What is PoE technology?

What is PoE or Power over Ethernet technology?

PoE technology transmits data and also supplies electrical power.

For example, a typical CCTV camera requires two connections during installation: a network connection to communicate with recording and display equipment, and a power connection.

If the camera supports PoE, only the network connection is needed, as it also receives power from that cable.

PoE technology enables wiring, speed, and network complexity to be reduced. In fact, this new technology allows you to transmit not only data but also electrical power.

This technology eliminates the need for a power supply next to each device. Therefore, you can install devices even in locations where there is no access to electricity at all.

Using PoE reduces your costs below the usual level and significantly decreases your need for a professional electrician. In this way, the data and power that the camera requires are supplied through the network cable.

Setting up and installing a network using PoE is much easier and more flexible, so you can install electronic equipment and connect them to the network anywhere, whether at home or at work.

Some devices, like IP cameras that require electricity, can be connected to POE links using PoE technology. The POE link enters these splitters on one side, and on the other side, a regular network cable (without POE) and the required power cable with the appropriate voltage exit.

What are the reasons for using PoE technology?

Cost reduction in deployment

Higher security during network setup

Easy scalability and improvement of the network

Flexibility

Reliability

Scalability

Increased efficiency

Data collection capability

Cost and time reduction:

  • Network cables do not require skilled technicians. Therefore, using PoE technology can save both costs and time.
  • Setting up a PoE network is not only cheaper than traditional methods but also has lower maintenance costs compared to older networks.

Security:

  • PoE technology designed to protect against voltage fluctuations, surges, and improper installations, so you don't need to worry about electrical issues.

Scalability:

  • When power is supplied via the network cable instead of separate power sources, equipment installation and network expansion become more cost-effective.

Flexibility:

Due to the fact that we do not require power outlets and cables for the installation of each camera and other devices, their location can be easily changed. This flexibility simplifies the installation and distribution of new network connections and allows for the effortless addition of more devices.

Reliability:

If you use POE instead of numerous adapters, you have the ability to utilize a single power source for equipping the network, and furthermore, this source is compliant with international standards. You can even use an emergency power supply during power outages.

Scalability:

Since power is provided via the network cable, the installation, setup, and expansion of network connections are performed more simply and effectively.
