Do CCTV Cameras Record Audio?
In different types of CCTV cameras with audio recording capabilities, the possibility of recording audio is different. Now, how do we know if a CCTV camera records sound? First, we need to know about the microphone, but how?
For the sake of convenience, we divide the cameras into two categories in terms of appearance in relation to the microphone in the CCTV camera.
1- Camera equipped with microphone:
Regardless of whether your camera is network-based (IP) or analog, a microphone can be installed on it. To determine if a CCTV camera records audio, inspect its body. If there's a small hole on the casing, it indicates a built-in microphone for audio recording. Previously, analog cameras lacked this feature, and only network cameras could record sound. However, recently some analog models also come with built-in microphones by default.
2- CCTV camera with the ability to be equipped with a microphone:
Unlike first-class cameras, these cameras are not manufactured with a built-in microphone. But you can add another microphone to it later. In analog cameras, there are three input cables for image transmission, power input, and audio output. The DVR also has a section for microphone input, and you can connect a microphone to it if you need to. Network cameras also connect the microphone to the camera via the AV port.
To find out if the microphone is connected to the camera, you need to look around. Usually, the audio recording microphone is installed here about 1 meter away from the camera. Because sometimes the microphone is not placed inside the cavity and is mounted on the ceiling or wall.
CCTV Camera Microphones
We do not see the shape of the first group microphones inside the camera. But the appearance of separate microphones is divided into the following:
• Golfi microphone:
These microphones can be seen if installed.
• Box microphone:
The microphone box is also visible by the user.
• Needle microphone:
These microphones are installed secretly and you can't see it.
