What is UTC?

What is the meaning of UTC capability in CCTV Camera?

Nowadays, video CCTV cameras are widely used in order to protect and monitor residential and commercial buildings. Most of these CCTV cameras are installed on the ceiling or wall to prevent them from being vandalized by thieves. In that case, it becomes difficult for users to repair, test, and adjust the security cameras. The UTC feature in the CCTV camera has been created for this purpose.

UTC technology makes it possible for the user to remotely apply OSD menu settings to the CCTV camera via a screen. In this article, we are going to comprehensively explain the UTC feature in the CCTV camera.

Before we get into the discussion of UTC capability in CCTV, it is better to provide an explanation regarding the OSD menu.

What is the OSD Menu on a CCTV Camera?

The OSD menu is a hardware feature on some CCTV cameras that includes some CCTV image settings that the user can change based on their needs.

The most important of these options are as follows:

  • Ability to turn WDR & DWDR on and off
  • Ability to change DNR settings
  • Change BLC settings
  • Changing the type of technology of the transmitted images such as analog, AHD, HDCVI, etc. (Depending on the type of CCTV camera, these facilities may not exist)
  • Adjust the amount of color, light intensity, balance and ...

Using the CCTV OSD menu options, we can adjust and optimize CCTV images in the best possible way in different lighting conditions.

Introduction to the UTC Feature in CCTV Cameras

The word UTC is an acronym for the English word "UP The Coax". UTC is a new technology that has been introduced into the analog video surveillance system. UTC technology makes it possible for the user to remotely make OSD menu settings. This operation is performed by UTC integrated circuits. The important point in this technology is that there is no need to change or replace the previous CCTV camera. It is easy to create UTC capability in the CCTV camera by connecting the relevant combo cable. In fact, the control signal is transmitted through the composite cable.

Benefits of using UTC in CCTV

As it turns out, the UTC feature in the CCTV camera makes it easy to install, repair, and test the performance of the CCTV camera. Maintenance operations are done with less effort. The user can make the required adjustments on the CCTV camera without direct access to it.

The benefits of UTC are listed as follows:

  • Available to the USD menu remotely and via hybrid cable
  • Reduce time in viewing CCTV settings
  • Setting up a security camera without having to access it
  • A cost-effective solution without the need to make major changes to the CCTV system
  • Having access to the CCTV cameras installed in the exterior of the building, from the interior

How to set up UTC on CCTV Camera

With this feature, all the features of the CCTV camera can be controlled and adjusted. UTC is connected to the devices by a coaxial cable and is battery-powered. To use the UTC device, we first place the batteries in its special housing. We connect one side of the controller to the CCTV camera and the other side to the video recording device, monitor or TV. Once all the cables are connected, we turn on the camera. If there are any problems with the image or the way it is displayed, we turn the camera back on and off.

On the controller there is an Enter button. When we press this button, the device turns on and is ready to apply the settings. The other key on the controller is the Mode key. Pressing this key and holding it in the same position activates the settings menu section. The settings menu has a few arrows up, down, left, and right.

The up and down arrow is used to convert the CCTV mode from analog to AHD. After selecting each mode, pressing the OK button will record all the statuses.

Tips

You should note that this feature is only available on analog and AHD surveillance systems. In the networked CCTV system, the settings can be made through their control panel and with more features. We suggest that if you want to buy an analog surveillance system and need a camera with an OSD menu, you should be aware of the presence of this feature in your desired CCTV camera.
